Until the early twentieth century, beekeeping was almost exclusively a family affair. It was not unusual for many households to keep at least two or three bee hives, and honeybees were considered valuable members of the family circle.
It was believed that honeybees understood what was said and done around them.
To this end, families were careful to inform the bees of important family events, such as marriages, births and deaths. This common practice became widely known as `Telling the Bees`.
Telling the Bees was done in several ways, including tapping the hive with a key, whispering the news to the bees, and leaving an appropriate gift, perhaps a piece of wedding cake or some other refreshment, at the entrance to the hive.
It was also customary to drape the hive with black crepe or wool when someone had died.
It was feared that if the honeybees were not informed, they would die or desert the family.
The custom was so prevalent that it was written extensively about in 19th century literature.
Honeybees are valued insects, which need both our protection and nurture.
If you think you have a swam in or around your home, please get in touch and we will endeavour to rehome them using our network of beekeepers. Flying Insects
DON`T LET THIS BE YOU! CALL US IMMEDIATELY IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE A PEST ISSUE AND WE CAN ACT QUICKLY TO ERADICATE IT FOR YOU.
We will initially talk through your pest problem, discuss the treatment options and give you the price. The price is based on the job, NOT the number of visits. Beware companies who charge per visit as this means an unknown bill!
An appointment will then be made for our pest control officer to visit your home at a convenient time to suit you. He will be able to identify the pest, the location of your problem and the level of infestation and then begin a treatment.
We always use the latest techniques and modern chemicals approved by DEFRA and the HSE and at all times act with due diligence and care towards the public, any pets, and to wildlife and the environment.
Many treatments take just the one visit, such as wasps, fleas, and moths, others more visits are required. Rats, mice and cockroaches take 2-3 visits in order to eradicate the infestation. If your problem is a squirrel, then we are required by law and for humane reasons to visit every day, as we use kill traps only, not rodenticide. Please note that we are legally prevented from releasing squirrels back in to the environment.
Whatever your problem, our pest control officer will visit until he is satisfied that you are pest-free. He will also advise you of any proofing or deterrent measures he recommends that you carry out to prevent future infestation, and we can give you a quotation for these additional services if you wish.

Whilst baiting for rodents will resolve the immediate issue, we need to ensure a problem does not return at some point in the future. Finding all the entry points used by the rodents and sealing them to prevent further ingress is very important.
When we carry out a treatment against rodents, we will also point out the problem areas and offer a price to carry out the proofing.
Roosting pigeons can be a huge problem on and within buildings. Their droppings cause unsightly mess, slippy pavements and contaminated roof spaces, with risk of disease and accident. We use nets, spikes, invisible cables and optical gels to deter birds from their roost site.
We have a wildlife management expert on our team who can assist you, whether your problem is deer, foxes, moles or rabbits.
He will be quite happy to ring you back and discuss what options are available to you.
We are pleased to be able to offer from 2019 a new service to our customers. Using a specialist team, we can now remove honeybee swarms from the fabric of buildings, rehome them and then rebuild the affected structure.
RATS UNDER THE SHED OR MICE IN THE HOUSE?
Invasion by pests can be a harrowing experience and can lead to health and hygiene issues. Rats and mice are vectors of serious diseases such as gastro-enteritis, dysentry and Weil`s disease, carpet moths can make short work of your floor coverings, wasp stings are acutely painful and can cause anaphylactic shock in certain people, and whilst squirrels are cute in the garden, one that has taken up residence in your loft can wreak havoc, as well as chewing through timbers and electric cabling and presenting a possible fire hazard.
We are dedicated to delivering a high standard of service to domestic customers and appreciate that having a pest issue can be a highly emotive and upsetting experience. We will deal with your problem in a sympathetic and calm, professional manner, and work quickly to restore a pest-free environment.
We can also offer post-treatment advice and provide extra services such as pest proofing, wasp nest removal and cleaning services.
